RV Season Begins at Toronto RV Show

The Toronto RV show is on this weekend at the Toronto Congress Center (on Dixon Road), and, if you can see past the piles of snow, this really is the kickoff to another camping season. But there is more to see here than just the same old display of trailers and motorhomes. What's also on the show floor, embodied in these newest designs from dozens of RV manufacturers, are the answers to the economic concerns everyone is having this year.

Look for many smaller, lightweight trailers (called micro-lites, ultra-lites and expandables), which are using more and more aluminum from the frame to the roof, as well as punched steel frame members -- these also save weight. Lighter weights translate to less fuel consumption, of course, but they also mean that smaller vehicles can tow these trailers as well.

Outside, the trend is toward smooth sidewalls with frameless, automotive-style windows and one-piece roofs. Inside, trailers are taking on more yacht-like interiors, meaning compact, multi-purpose and space-saving designs.
